Tendencies of the Researches Published on Blunt Abdominal Trauma: A Future Direction Study

Objectives: This study aims to analyze articles on blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) published between 1980 and 2026 to identify the most influential authors, journals, and emerging trends. Methods: Data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database on May 24, 2026, using the keyword "blunt abdominal trauma". The search yielded a total of 7,884 publications published between 1980 and 2026. The retrieved publications were sorted in descending order based on their citation counts, and the top 100 most-cited publications were included in the analysis. Results: When research areas within the full dataset were examined, Surgery (n=3,695) maintained its leading position, followed by Emergency Medicine (n=1,264) and Critical Care Medicine (n=1,167) in second and third place, respectively. The analysis of the top 100 most-cited publications revealed that these papers were published between 1981 and 2019, receiving a total of 17,074 citations. Moderate positive correlations were identified between the Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) and Dimensions badge counts, and between the AAS and average citations per year. Conclusion: Traditional citation metrics and alternative impact indicators, including the AAS and Dimensions badge, provide distinct yet complementary perspectives on the scientific value of a publication.
